My Stash

February 5, 2009 at 3:12 pm (Uncategorized)

yeah, so obviously it’s been a long time since I attempted to start this blog.  I’m not very good at this whole thing, as it turns out but would like to give it another whirl.  Maybe I’ll even make my page perty soon, just imagine!

It’s been SO long since I’ve even logged in, I had to google “blogs” because I couldn’t even remember which host I used- goodness me!

Anyway, SewMamaSew is doing a “tell us about your stash” thing, sounds like fun so I thought it would be a perfect way to get myself blogging.  So here goes:

  • What do you usually sew?

I love trying all kinds of new tutes.  I do a lot of craft swaps so that really gets my juices flowing.  My fave things to sew are purses/totes, wallets, things like that and then pillows, curtains, aprons…  I recently started enjoying the world of quilting, though I’m not very good at it yet.

  • When you shop for fabric, what size cuts do you usually buy? (i.e. If you see something beautiful, but you don’t have a use for it right away, how much do you buy?)

Depends on the price.  I mean, I only buy fabric that I have no plans for if it’s a really good sale but if it’s quilting cotton then I might buy less, since such a variety can be used there.  But for the most part it would be somewhere around 1 yard.

  • Do you buy on impulse or do you go out looking for something you need?

I have a terrible habit of impulse buying.  Sometimes I even go to the craft store without a thing that I need and I just hit up the clearance shelves and remnant bens.  I regularly go to the thrift store and buy up good deals on fabric and sheets and napkins and whatnot there also.  It’s an addiction, but at least I admit it 🙂

  • Are you a pre-washer? If you are, do you wash your fabric before you need it, or only when you’re ready to use it?

Only if it smells like it needs to be.  I prefer to work with unwashed fabric.

  • Do you iron it?

When I first started sewing, I’d avoid it at all costs, but since I’ve discovered what a difference it makes in the end result, I iron EVERYTHING… well except my actual clothes, lol.  I’m usually a wrinkle bomb, but if it’s going through my sewing machine, it’s getting a good ironing.

  • How do you sort it? (color, print size, collection, etc.)

Sort?  What’s that?  I have very limited storage space, so I’m just content to have it folded and if I can see my varieties at all, sweet.  I do try to keep the clothes & sheets (for reconstruction) and actual fabric separated on different shelves though.

  • Do you have any special folding techniques?

Not really

  • How do you store your fabric?

I started off with it nicely folded in stacks in my Grandma’s old hutch, but I’ve grown out of it and now have it doubling out of a topless storage ben on the floor and a toy hammock hanging from the corner walls 😛  We are gonna look into more storage for me soon, and I cannot wait!!!!

  • What tips do you have for building up a well-rounded stash?

THRIFT STORES!!!!  I couldn’t believe how much craftiness could be found there.  Lots of yardage for cheap, and there’s always sales to be had on top of those low prices

  • When do you say enough is enough?

I say “what’s enough?!”

  • What are some of your favorite stash-busting projects?

the ones that I want to do and I just happen to have the perfect fabric and the perfect amount 🙂  It’s rarely the same project twice!

  • Do you have a current favorite print in your stash? Let’s see it!

Hmmm… I just bought my first Alexander Henry print.  I don’t have a pic but it’s called Very Berry.  I love it!  But I wish I had more than a fat quarter (oh, it’s my very first FQ too!)

  • What’s your definition of the perfect stash? (Consider sharing a picture or two of your stash & storage, or direct us to a pic on Flickr!)

Having a little bit of each color thread and a rainbow of fabrics.  Mine tends to lean towards certain colors… ones that I like.  I need more things that others will like too.  Also a stash that has all the tools and buttons needed to get the job done.

new item! Travel Pillow

April 26, 2008 at 1:54 pm (Breast Cancer Awareness Merchandise)

It’s nothing special, just a little pillow I made and will make more if this one sells.  I’m asking $8 (minimum of course, if you’d like to donate extra- it all goes to the fund).  It’s approx. 9″X7″.   Would be perfect to bring on a plain with you or to use in the passenger seat during a road trip!  It’s made with super soft plushy material and the pink ribbon is a crushed velvet material.   I can’t stop cuddling it! 🙂

Please check back often as I have lots of goodies planned!  I’m cooking up some infant shirts/onesies, make up pouches, stuffies, mini-pillows…

Let me know if you are particularly interested in something I’ve mentioned and I’ll try to move it up on my list of things to create!

here we go!!!!

April 14, 2008 at 3:25 am (Breast Cancer Awareness Merchandise) ()

Okay, so here are the first items up for bid on the BettyAnne show!!!!  Yes, yes- you’re dealing with a dork.  So these are tea wallets.  on the left there are 4 slots for those powders mixes you add to bottled water or for the tall slender sugar packets, and then the rest of the slots are for tea bags. Here are pictures of the color/pattern combinations I’ve made so far, feel free to ask me for other combinations:
Here are the different styles closed (some are the same on the outside, but vary inside...)
The colors/patterns shown are (from top left to bottom right) Asian-Pink Ribbon/hot green, Asian-Pink Ribbon/Deep Pink, Digi-Cam/Pink Ribbon Gingham, Digi-Cam/Deep Pink, Pink Ribbon Gingham/Aqua, Asian Pink Ribbon/Black, Pink Ribbon Gingham/Deep Pink
 open tea wallets
Each wallet is $10, plus shipping if neccessary.  All proceeds are going to my dear friend Jennifer Byrd, who’s selflessly trying to reach a $2200 goal to walk in the 3-Day Breast Cancer Walk in October, so if you’d like to pay more it’s all going to a good cause.  Here’s her myspace page with more information or go straight to the source! Please email me if you are interested in purchasing or if you have any questions.  Thank you in advance.

EDIT:  If you are still interested a tea wallet, wonderful, I’ll still gladly make you one but I don’t want to mislead you- at this point point the 3-day walk is over for 2008 and I’m  just making them in many different patterns for my own profit at this time.  Thanks for your interest.  I’ll post again if I start selling them or any other item for a cause.

To my Grandmas. Betty and LeeAnne

April 9, 2008 at 7:20 pm (Uncategorized)

I hope that all the things I create under your names are loved.  My first project under BettyAnne is to make Breast Cancer Awareness products to sell, and I’m giving all the proceeds to a friend that is raising money for the 3-Day Breast Cancer Walk.   That’s how I finally came up with the name BettyAnne as my name for labels.  I dedicate everything I do to both of you.  RIP- I miss you both with every beat of my heart.

To anyone reading this.  Please check back as I update with my creations.  If you are interested in purchasing from me I’ll be more than happy to ship at the cheapest possible rate.  Thanks for your support.

Love You Bunches,

Marie
